George E. Viets, 73, of Suffield died Sunday June 19, 2011 at the Suffield House. George was bornon Aug. 1, 1937 in Hartford the son of Morgan J. And Elsa ( Belden ) Viets and lived in East Granby for 20 years before moving to Suffield in 1959. George worked with the CT Department of Transportation for over 30 years retiring in 1990. He served as a Deacon at the East Granby Congregational Church. George was a member of the Star Dusters Square Dancing Club, and enjoyed horse draws and 4H doodle-bug tractor pulls. He is survived by two brothers Roy Viets of Suffield, Fred Viets of Enfield, a sister Mary (Viets) Burgess of Lincoln, RI. and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Jason and Rollin Viets. The funeral services will be Saturday June, 25 at 3 PM at the Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Rd. West Suffield. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, East Granby, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association 2080 Silas Deane Highway, 2nd Floor, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
