Obituary for Cheryl Ann Simons (Nigro)

Cheryl Ann (Nigro) Simons, 56, of West Suffield passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at home after a long battle with breast cancer that she fought with strength, courage, and grace. Cheryl was born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 4, 1963. She was the beloved daughter of Victor and Patricia Nigro. She also left behind four daughters who love her fiercely and who were blessed to have her influence and care as long as they did: Heather Simons and fiancé Elvis Pera, Meghan Reed and husband Nick Reed, Whitney Bridge and husband Jeff Bridge, and Kera Simons. To her five grandchildren who cherished her, Cheryl was “Boppa.” Hayley, Lily, and Jeffrey Bridge and Spencer and Olivia Reed will miss her warm embraces. Cheryl was also survived by her two brothers, Victor Nigro Jr. and fiancé Sandy Stafford and Scott and Margaret Nigro. There are many others who love Cheryl dearly including many nieces and nephews, her ex-husband, Jeff Simons, and closest friends, Robin Brennan, Mary Raben, Kim Trimble, and Lori Hegarty.

Cheryl was an angel that walked on earth emitting positivity and love everywhere she went. She always put the concerns of others before her own. Even in the face of adversity and illness, she would never utter a complaint or shed a tear. She found new friends everywhere she went and took the time to listen to their stories and share a laugh or ten. She has been promoted to an angel in the sky where she will undoubtedly spend her time spreading the same optimism and love in her new residence.

Cheryl loved the beauty and peace of nature. She spent many an afternoon laying out in the sun or tending to stunning flowers in the garden. She was truly in her element at the beach with the sun and a smile on her face and a dear friend at her side.

She meant so much to so many of us and while our hearts break to not have her here physically, she left a mark that can never be erased and will therefore always be with us.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 6 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Rd, West Suffield, CT.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the West Suffield Congregational Church, 1408 Mountain Rd, West Suffield, CT. on Friday, June 7 at 12:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
