Jason E. Viets, 70, of West Suffield, CT, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 surrounded by the love of his family. Jason was born February 11, 1939 in Hartford, CT to the late Morgan J. and Elsa (Belden) Viets. He was raised in East Granby and has been a resident of West Suffield for 38 years. Jason worked for the State of Connecticut - Department of Transportation (CT-DOT) for 38 years and retired in 1992. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and taking several trips traveling around our beautiful country with his uncle-in-law and childhood friend Lindy Dorman. He leaves behind his four children, Troy D. Viets of Granby, CT and his wife Karen (Jones), Tracy L. Woodruff of Suffield and her husband Mike, Tina L. Cioffi of Windsor Locks, and Todd D. Viets of Suffield and his wife Debbie (Mancini). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Jessica, Sonya, Kyle, Lindsey, Alyssa, Trevor, Caylin, and Tylor and two great grandchildren Jasmyn and Mia. In addition to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, he is survived by his four brothers, George, Rollin, Roy, and Fred, his sister Mary Burgess, his former wife Phyllis A. (Dorman) Ormerod of Venice, FL and many nieces and nephews and an extended loving family.
His family will receive friends Sunday, March 8th, 2 – 5 PM, with a memorial service at 4PM at Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jason's memory may be made to the Caleb Hitchcock Health Center of Duncaster, Attention: Gail Walter, 40 Loeffler Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106.
