Obituary for Helen Osowiecki (Szoka)

Helen Szoka Osowiecki of Suffield passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at The Suffield House, one day after her 104th birthday. Born in Holyoke, MA, to Anthony and Antoinette Szoka, she was the wife of the late George Chester Osowiecki of West Suffield, where they grew both shade and broadleaf tobacco for many years. She was a communicant of St. Adalbert Church of Enfield where she was a choir member over 25 years. Helen enjoyed summers with her family and friends at her cottage on Otis Reservoir in Massachusetts and spent many winter vacationing in Florida. When her sight failed her she became an avid radio fan of the Boston Red Sox and the girls UCONN basketball team.

Helen is survived by two sons: Chester A. Osowiecki and his wife Gwen of Enfield and Donald R. Osowiecki and his wife Mary Lou of Little River, SC. She leaves a daughter, Sally A. Haase and her husband Richard of Haddam. Helen was the loving grandmother to: Peter Osowiecki and his wife Rosemary of Enfield, Christine Venuti and her husband Michael of Killingworth, Susan Lavoie and her husband Robert of Palmer, MA, Mark Osowiecki and Matthew Osowiecki of Windsor, Landon Haase of Higganum and Donald W. Osowiecki and his wife Kristen of East Granby. She was the proud great-grandmother of Stephanie, Nicholas and Jennifer Venuti, Harrison Lavoie, Devon and Derek Haase, and Luke Osowiecki. In addition, she is survived by a brother Stanley Szoka and his wife Rowena, sisters-in-law Sally Szoka , Ann Szoka, Anna Osowiecki all of Suffield and Jeannette Sas of Enfield.

She was predeceased by four sisters: Sarah Skowronski, Alice Kreczko, Bernice Zukowski, and Sophie Krajewski and by four brothers: Charles Szoka, Edward Szoka, Joseph Szoka and Anthony Szoka.
Helen’s family would like to thank her “special” aides and nurses at both The Suffield House, convalescent home and the Suffield by the River, assisted living facility, and River’s Watch.

The Funeral Service will be on Friday, September 9, at 10AM from The Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield; with A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11AM at St. Adalbert Church, Enfield, at 90 Alden Ave, Enfield. Burial will follow in the St. Adalbert Cemetery in Enfield. Friends may call at the Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, from 4-7PM.
