Obituary for Philip W. Johnston

Philip W.  Johnston
Philip W. Johnston, 88, of Suffield, died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at a local nursing home. He was born in Masardis, ME; on September 6, 1925 son of the late Earl G. and Laura F. (Murphy) Johnston; and lived in Suffield the last 13 years. Philip was one of twenty-one children. Philip was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII, being injured and receiving a Purple Heart and a Presidential Citation. He was employed at Hamilton Standard for over 35 years. Philip enjoyed playing pool with many friends at The Suffield Senior Center. He also enjoyed working out at Healthtrax at least three days a week in Enfield, and dining out no less than twice weekly with his best friend Charles Griger. He enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean Islands, and cruising to Eastern and Western Europe on Norwegian Cruise Lines. He is survived by two sisters Christina Picknes of VA, and Silvia Witkowski GA, and his best friend Charles Griger. Philip was an angel of a person, and everybody loved him. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.
Graveside Services will be Thursday, August 21, at 11:30 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bridge Street, Suffield. The Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
