Obituary for John Russell VanDeursen

John VanDeursen, 73, of West Suffield, formally of Waterbury, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Noble Hospital, Westfield, MA. He was born in Plainfield, NJ on May 15, 1940 son of the late Elmer and Marie (Caulfield) VanDeursen. John lived in Maine until 1981 when he moved to Waterbury, CT and most recently spend the last 12 years in West Suffield.

John retired in 2005 from C&S Wholesale Foods. John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a MP in Germany from 1958-1961. He served in the US Army Reserves until honorably discharged in 1982. He was a member of the Feeding Hills Polish Club and a member of the Agawam Fish & Game Club. John enjoyed spending time fishing with his sons.

John is survived by his four children; Betsy and her husband Frederick Loveless of Brunswick, ME; Russell VanDeursen and his partner Heather of Interval, NH; Kevin VanDeursen and his wife Carol of Lewiston, ME; and Daniel VanDeursen of Waterbury, CT. Six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 17, at 2pm at the Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, CT. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made Suffield Volunteer Ambulance, P.O.Box 642, Suffield, CT 06078.
