Obituary for Helen Zera (Druzolowski)

Helen (Druzolowski) Zera, 95, of Suffield, wife of the late Joseph Zera, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Saint Francis Hospital. She was born the daughter of the late Joseph and Jozefa (Wiacek) Druzolowski, and grew up in East Hartford before moving to Suffield. She was devoted to her family both here and in Poland. Helen and Joe hosted many family visitors from Poland and many student visitors from foreign lands. Helen worked tirelessly on the farm and at their business, Zera Equipment, in Suffield. She volunteered countless hours at St. Joseph Church, Singing in the choir, working at Bingo, Polish picnics, Rosary Guild, and sewing baptismal gowns. Over the years she participated in Farm & Farming Equipment Associations. She also volunteered at Child & Family Services, and under the auspices of The Suffield Garden Club, arranged flowers with patients at Bickford Health Care Center. Helen is famous with family and friends for making thousands of cream puffs and pieroges. Currently she has been active in The Suffield Polish Heritage Society acting as photography co-chair. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands; Della and Roger Winans of South Glastonbury, Susan and Michael Herbert of Suffield, and Betsy and Jim Smith of Marlborough. Three sisters-in-law; Amy, Bernice, Jean Zera, Lenore Druzolowski. Eleven grandchildren; Wells, Scott, Jason, and Dale Twombly; Amy, Kathy and Dan Winans; Michael Kaplan; Timothy, Jeffrey, and Alison Smith. Fifteen great-grand children; Cameron, Bowie, Matthew, Amanda, Olivia, Christopher, Erik, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Aurelia, Annabelle, Roy, Max, Zoe, and Phoebe. Cousins; Stephanie Kaminski and Bernice Woitukiewicz, and Vincent Druzolowski; and many loved nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Joe, she is predeceased by a brother Charles Druzolowski; a daughter Margaret Twombly Burrill; and a grandson Mark Kaplan. Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 15, at 10AM from The Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church at 11am. Friends may call at the Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, 140 South Main Street, Suffield, CT 06078.
