Obituary for Anne A. Jaworski (Horanzy)

Anne A. Jaworski (Horanzy)

Anne A. Jaworski (Horanzy), life-long resident of Suffield and former Ms. Senior Connecticut, died peacefully with dignity September 18, 2011. Polish and proud, Anne was born on Hill Street in Suffield to Joseph and Martha (Nicksa) Horanzy a long time ago. In her youth, along with her beloved brothers, Stanley, Louis, and Vincent, and her cherished sister Barbara, she worked and thrived on the family dairy and tobacco farms. She walked to the little school house on Hill Street in good weather, and her Pa would hitch up old Dolly to bring her and the boys there in the snow. She graduated from Suffield Academy and went on the educate herself in comptometer school. She worked in offices in both Springfield and Hartford. Anne married Edward A. Jaworski of Thrall Avenue, Suffield August 30, 1941. Four days after their marriage, Ed was called to war. Anne remained on the Hill Street farm during the 4 years of Ed's service. The couple then built a home on Hill Street where they raised tobacco and a family, daughters Karen and Betsy. Once the children were grown, Anne returned to work for the State of Connecticut Judicial System, retiring after 28 years of service in the Family Relations Division. Active in community life, Ann was a devout member of the Saint Joseph's Church, a member of its rosary guild, and a choir member for more than 50 years. She was a brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a "soccer Mom" long before the term was coined. She devoted herself to her family and church. An avid crafter, she participated in Suffield's Septemberfest for many years selling her bright and fanciful arrangements. She also volunteered at the Alexander King House. She was a vital member of the Enfield Senior Citizens, and a past President of the Cameo Club. She sang with The GoldTones. As much as she loved Hill Street and Suffield, she still loved to travel. Her favorite trips included two tours to Poland and one very special pilgrimage to the Holy Land with her family. She won the coveted crown of Ms. Senior Connecticut in 1989. She thrived in her role promoting the State of Connecticut and acting as a Goodwill Ambassador. This also gave her the opportunity to dress up and to sing; two of her very favorite things. Her talent for the event was her "signature song:, "How Great Thou Art". She represented the State in Atlantic City, NJ where she won the title of Ms. Congeniality. A slave to fashion, Ann was as comfortable in peddle pushers as she was in an evening gown. She loved to sing, she love to dance, and she loved red. Always a lady, she is survived by her daughters Karen A. Salvaggio and her husband Philip of Wilmington, MA and Elizabeth Allen Spratt and her husband William of Bolton, MA; six grandchildren, Thomas, Craig, and Glen Salvaggio, Todd and Rebecca Allen, and William Spratt, and 15 Great Grandchildren.
