Bette G.  Houghton (Ferguson)
Bette G. Ferguson Houghton of Suffield, CT died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on November 2nd at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MA at the age of 94.
Born in London, England on February 26th, 1915 to the late Laura C. Pyman and Gordon A. Ferguson, Bette taught at Montessori Schools there prior to immigrating to the United States in 1996 to be with her two children.
In the United States, Bette worked as Director of Pediatric Activities at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. Later in life, Bette moved to Suffield, CT where she loved playing bridge and all card games with her dear friends at the Suffield Senior Center. She also enjoyed her time spent in Delray Beach, FL.
Bette's loves and interests were her family, all small children, gardening/flowers and socializing with friends. She also loved parties, needlepoint, dancing and watching the grand-slam tennis tournaments. Her warm and dynamic personality resulted in a huge number of friends all over the world.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman E. Houghton, son, Rodney N. Houghton, sisters, Sylvia (Joy) Stiassni, Pauline S. Ferguson and brother, Gordon (Hobbie) Ferguson.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Deanne Houghton Shorb and son-in-law, Delburt E. Shorb of Suffield, CT, and daughter-in-law, Penelope P. Houghton of Vero Beach, FL.She is also survived by her Grandchildren, Lee C. Hansen and his wife Gretchen of San Francisco, CA, Stephanie H. Sinclair and her husband Ian of Avon, CT, and Alexander P. Houghton and his wife Laura of Atlanta, GA, step-grandchildren, Kerry S. Rochefort of Canton, CT and Amy S. Kropp and her husband George of Coral Springs, FL,
She had nine great-grandchildren; Victoria, William and Nicholas Hansen, Clay and Parker Sinclair, Henry and James Houghton, and Kara and Aidan Kropp.
She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and their families both in England and the United States.
All her family wish to extend their thanks and gratitude to the "Bette Team” for all of the tender loving care. Aneta, Jackie, Cari, Jenn, Mary, Joyce, Joan, Oma and Heidi. Also many thanks to the Mercy Hospital staff of the 2nd and 5th floors for their unbelievable care in her last few weeks of life.
Internment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery on Bridge St.., Suffield at 11 AM. December 5th
followed by a memorial service in celebration of Bette's life at the First Church of Christ Congregational 81 High St. Suffield, CT at 12 noon. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffield Senior Center 68 Bridge St. Suffield 06078, or the Suffield Mini Bus 83 Mountain Rd. Suffield 06078.
