Nellie ( Backiel ) Osowiecki 87 Wife of the late Joseph Osowiecki died Friday April18, 2008 at the Suffield House. Nellie was born April 22, 1920 in Agawam MA the daughter of the late Frank and Salomea (Gajowa) Backiel. She grew up in Agawam and graduated from Agawam High School Class of 1937 before moving to Suffield CT. Nellie and Joe raised their family in Suffield. Nellie was employed as a librarian for the CT Air National Guard for thirty years retiring in 1988. After her retirement she helped Joe run the Sullivan TPC Golf Range. Nellie was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Rosary Guild and the Polish Jr. League.
Nellie loved to watch her grandchildren play any sport. She was also an avid Red Sox fan. Nellie and Joe enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe.
Nellie’s family would like to thank Pat Hinkston, Pat Ricci, Elaine Purvee and all the staff at the Suffield House for the care that Nellie received over the past six years.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph Jr. and Jane Osowiecki of Orlando FL, Joanne and Daniel Sullivan of West Suffield, Janet DuVal of Phoenix AZ, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.
The funeral services will be held Monday April 21, at 9:00 AM at the Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Rd. West Suffield with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday April 20, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
