Obituary for Richard L. Evans, Sr

Richard L. Evans Sr., 79, of Suffield, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Windsor, CT, son of the late Louis and Helen Evans. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and later served in the Merchant Marines. He owned and operated Bishops Corner Shell in West Hartford for over 20 years and was a well-respected businessman. Richard retired to his farm in West Suffield where he enjoyed days on his tractor and evenings watching the sunset over his mountain. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. He was always there to lend a hand and to give sound advice. He enjoyed growing his roses and peonies, watching the birds at his feeders and studying history. He welcomed countless pets into his home over the years.
Richard is survived by his wife Doris of 49 years. He is also survived by his six children: Diana Dash and her husband Kenneth of Scotland, CT; Richard Evans Jr. and his wife Deborah-Ann of East Granby, CT; Patricia Evans of Canton, CT; Thomas Evans of Westbrook, CT; Maribeth Evans of Windsor Locks, CT; and Robert Evans of Norwich, CT. Richard is also survived by his four grandchildren Alexandra, Kenneth, Christopher and Matthew Dash. He leaves a sister Louise Levesque of Henderson, NV, Donald Evans and his wife Marguerite of Bloomfield, CT and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Geraldine Evans and Marjorie Wiesenfarth. He also leaves his Springer Spaniel Lizzie who was always by his side.
Richard loved his family and his country. He was our hero and we will miss him dearly.
Calling hours for friends and family will be on Sunday, March 18th, from 6-8PM and on Monday, March 19th, from 10-11AM at the Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Rd., Suffield, CT. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11AM at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Rd., Suffield, CT.
