Obituary for Jeanne Long (Burdick)

Jeanne  Long (Burdick)
Jeanne Marie Burdick Long, 70, of Suffield, Connecticut, died after a brief illness due to complications from a stroke, on Wednesday, October 23. Jeanne was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 10, 1942, fourth child of Reginald Houghton Burdick and Phoebe Lumina (Parrott) Burdick. She grew up in Sea Cliff, Long Island, New York. She attended Nazareth College in Louisville and Queens College, Queens, NY and received her bachelors’ degree in 1965. In 1969, she married James William Long, Jr., of Hempstead, Long Island, New York and together they had four children, moving to West Suffield, CT in 1979. They divorced in 2001.

Professionally, she worked a variety of jobs but most enjoyed writing and editing. She enjoyed donating her time, including work with the Library Board, DAR, and Literacy Volunteers, where she was named volunteer of the year in 1987. She earned her masters from the University of Hartford in 2002. She was an avid reader, card player and enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, knitting and crocheting.
She was loved and will be missed by her four children, Jennifer Long [Tom McGrew] of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, James W. Long III (Carrie) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jacqueline Fulginiti (James) of Reston, Virgina and Julia Wayner (Andrew) of Glastonbury, Connecticut and grandchildren, Patrick and Christine McGrew, Rebecca and Joshua Long, and Julia and Joseph Fulginiti. She is also survived by sisters Phoebe Klein and Louise Colli of Sebastian, Florida and brother David Burdick of Sarasota, Florida and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Reginald and Alfred.
Calling hours are scheduled on Sunday, October, 27 at Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Rd West Suffield from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013, at First Church of Christ, Congregational, UCC on 81 High Street in Suffield. Her ashes will be interred at a later date at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, Long Island, New York.
